Quarantine Saga - Part II

If the weather's nice, you'll find us eating lunch outside.  Sometimes the kids are hesitant, because they want a TV break from schoolwork, but I can usually coax them out there.

I caught Momma cutting our grass in the front yard one day.  She's such a good mom.  This was after she already cut their grass!

I caved and we made fluffy slime...again.  It was a good batch!

I tried to tell Colin that red food coloring in white glue and shaving cream would turn pink (he thought it would be red) - he didn't mind.

Cadence's teacher sent her a 2-page, hand-written letter.  Isn't this just the sweetest?!  Our kids were blessed with great teachers this school year.

The kids got lucky and didn't have to start remote learning until March 30th, two full weeks after we were ordered to stay home.  They've done pretty well, and the assignments have been reasonable.  I'm thankful for that because some days it's a struggle to get the work done (ahem, Colin...).  Our day starts with videos from the principal and their teachers.  They send lesson plans for the week on Sunday night/Monday morning.  They let the kids work at their own pace.  We use several different apps and submit videos and pictures like pros now.  This learning situation isn't ideal, but they've become more skilled at using computers these days!

I snapped a picture of Cadence so she could show her Girls on the Run coaches that she was trying to stay active.

Here's one of the art projects the kids worked on together.  They had to find an item at home and up-cycle it - they turned a couple of tissue boxes into a bird house!

The kids thought they'd be funny on April Fool's Day...gross.

Cadence had to take a picture of herself for an assignment at school - this is what she came up with!

Practicing guitar outside

We love baking at home - it's usually not as peaceful as it should be...

We've seen lots of chalk art posts, so we made one of our own.  We had to wait a while to do it - it's been a rainy spring!

Voila!

Cadence was happy with her hair-do one night after her shower and had to snap a pic to send to her friend!

We took a drive up to Mohican State Park.  It was a beautiful day for hiking.  Only the front parking lot was open, so we had quite a hike to get to the actual hiking trails, but it was worth it.  Poor Cadence had a sore throat (we didn't know it at the time, but she had strep), so she was feeling a little under the weather, but she made the entire 6 mile hike!  Next time, I don't think we'll hike that far.  It was a lot for the kiddos.  We also saw that you can go tubing down the river, so we're looking forward to going back.

It was April 6th before the pear trees in the back yard decided to bloom!

Since Cadence's sore throat persisted, we took a trip to the pediatrician's office.  It was a little bit of a scary trip to make during a pandemic, but we made sure we were safe with Grandma's homemade masks.

For a STEM assignment, their teacher introduced a pretty cool feature to us from Google!

The kids love our pooch.

Cadence had a lot of fun working on her Johnny Appleseed project - she even put her sewing skills to use!

Here's the finished Johnny Appleseed sock puppet 😀

Danny's birthday fell on Good Friday this year; he ended up taking the day off from work to get a project done.  He built shelves for us in the basement for some much needed storage.  He did a great job and we're pleased with how they turned out!  Colin helped him for a little while.

I sent a picture to Colin's teacher of our first Quarantine Puzzle and she said she had a puzzle in her trunk that had been unopened.  She made a special trip and dropped it off on our front porch!  It was so nice of her - and nice to say, "hi"!

Everyone was busy making things that day - Cadence made a couple of pillows!

And we decorated the house for Danny's birthday while he was busy in the basement.

We loved the first Trolls movie and were excited to watch the second one when it came out on Danny's birthday.  One good thing about quarantine - we got to watch a newly-released movie at home!

Colin's faux-hawk, since his hair had gotten so long!

I think Scarlet is enjoying us being home all day, every day.

We made almost 40 cards to give to residents at a couple of local nursing homes.  It was an idea I had seen posted on social media.  The cards turned out great.  I hope they put some smiles on their recipients' faces!
