We had a great holiday season -- we were able to spend time with family and it was relaxing and laid back! We also had a lot of fun! It was great to watch the kids get so excited about all of their presents!
We headed down to Hamilton to see Danny's family on Gracie's birthday, December 23rd. Danny's dad was also scheduled to have aortic aneurysm surgery on Christmas Eve. The 23rd was the perfect day to celebrate Christmas with Danny's family. Danny's dad is doing really well, by the way!
Cadence loves her Shopkins!
Colin wanted to play with his new Planes ornament instead of hang it on the tree!
These girls and their Shopkins! I don't get it! Who knew little kids would want to collect tiny food and household items with cartoon faces!?
Silly kiddos eating lunch
We ate dinner at my parents' house on Christmas Eve. We were sure to make it back to our house early so Santa wouldn't skip our house! Danny's grandma sent the kids a special plate and cup for Santa's cookies and milk!
Cadence explaining everything to Colin
Cadence also made a book for Santa for him to read while he ate his cookies!
Cadence's big present this year was Elsa's castle
Colin's big present was a tool bench
Cadence fell down (on purpose, I think) because she was so excited to see all of her presents from Santa!
Colin couldn't wait to get in there to check everything out!
Cadence has a bow and arrow set from Brave, so she needed Merida's wig to go with it!
Freaking out about the goodies in her stockings!
Yup, that's Danny under there...
Cadence made some reindeer food at school. We put it in a bowl out on the front porch on Christmas Eve. The reindeer were little piggies and made a mess! ;)
Colin and Poppa playing with the new Play-doh
A little later in the morning we went to my parents' house to exchange gifts with them and my brother
Christmas day was great -- we woke up, opened presents with the kids, went to my parents' house for breakfast, hung out, went to our house for dinner, and relaxed and watched movies.
Around New Year's, we spent some time in the morning with some watercolors.
I was impressed with how Colin did...he didn't make a mess!
Our future artist in action
Cadence and I played beauty shop and we curled her hair. She's so girly.
Since New Year's Day is a holiday, we celebrate Scarlet's birthday January 2nd. When we rescued her from the shelter, we were told that she was roughly 8 months old. To keep it easy to remember, we went ahead and made her birthday 1/2/07. We found a recipe online for a cake recipe for dogs to make for Scarlet's birthday cake! The kids did a great job helping. They love helping me bake.
The finished product had carrots, peanut butter, and vanilla. I removed the frosting paw print before she scarfed down the portion we gave her.
Yup, we sang, "Happy Birthday" to her too...
...and the kids blew out the candles.
Here's the 9 year old pup!
I stayed home with Colin while Danny took Cadence to gymnastics. He played with the kinetic sand for over an hour! He usually jumps from activity to activity!
Later that weekend, the kids busted out some of the dress up stuff we have and came up with these cute outfits!
On January 12th, the morning started out where the local schools were on a 2-hour delay. The snow kept coming down, so they ended up cancelling school. I stayed home with both of the kids and we had a lot of fun!
I was nervous to get the kids suited up to play in the snow --
A) I knew it would take quite a while
B) I was unsure of how Colin would react (he was not a fan of the snowsuit or boots last year)
But we had a great time and played in the snow for almost 2 hours...I was pooped! And yes, Colin had Cadence's hand-me-down mittens on. The ones I had gotten for him were huge! He didn't mind that they were pink...or had hearts on them.
I also stayed home with the kids on MLK Day (don't worry, Danny's turn to stay home is on President's Day). It was FREEZING outside that day. I dressed them in some warm sweaters and we braved the elements for an outing to Cabela's and McDonald's!
Colin was afraid of the animals (even though they were taxidermy) -- I think it started when Cadence made the wolf howl on the sound board. But he loved the fish!
Love our cute kids!
