At the end of September, the kids got to walk in the Big Walnut Homecoming Parade - Cadence with the middle school band, and Colin with his school. I had to stay with Colin so I got to participate as well!
While we were all lining up, I caught Cadence warming up.
Colin and I hung out with the Rileys most of the evening!
Lots of "bros" from sports were around!
Almost Go Time! Look at that face she's giving me! 😂
We followed the PRE float - the them was Merry & Bright!
The Lastivkas were on the parade route & caught us in action!
Unfortunately, we weren't able to finish the parade. In the middle of the route, a 5th grader, Kenny Zedekar, was accidentally run over by a parade float. As I write this, it is December 8th, and he's still in the hospital. He has improved immensely and we have learned he will be going home soon, in time for Christmas, but it has been a long road. Kenny suffered a lacerated liver, collapsed lung and several broken ribs, and several facial bone fractures. It was so scary. At the time, we were just hearing rumors. We didn't know how bad it was. We only knew the parade had stopped and several cop cars and firetrucks passed us. It was chaotic. Some kids were crying. Some kids had seen what happened. Cadence was ahead of us and Danny drove separately from work, so we were all at different locations. Kenny could've easily been one of MY kids. I'm not sure if Big Walnut will host another parade again. The risk is just too severe. We're thankful our family was safe and Kenny will be going home soon.
