Christmas and the end of 2017 has come and gone...here's a recap!
During one of the Grandma Fridays before the holidays, Colin went to the tree farm with my parents to cut down their Christmas tree. I was told he had a really good time!
Next up, we had Colin's Christmas program at school. Colin and his classmates did a really good job. I can't believe this will be the last Christmas program at this center. We've been bringing the kids there since 2010!
The preschool kids were angels.
Colin was supposed to be one of the "special" angels during the story of Christmas, but he had a little stage fright. He was so stinkin' cute, though!
Cadence and the rest of the 2nd grade kids put on a Christmas program at school as well. They told a story about an elf named Elfis who traveled around and learned about how different holidays are celebrated around the world, in addition to Christmas. It was really cute.
It's nice to not have to worry about whether your kids will sit on Santa's lap or not. Colin was a little shy and wanted his sister to do the talking. Cadence was prepared with a list for Santa.
We've had more snow this winter than 2016 and 2017 combined! Here are some pictures from the first snowfall we had. It wasn't much, but we had to get out there and play. We've had a decent amount of snow since and we've been able to go sledding.
Scarlet carried the sled down the entire yard like it was her toy!
She was not interested in a ride.
My poor grandma passed away before Christmas. Although it hurts knowing we won't see her anymore, it's comforting to know that she's no longer in pain. I made a quick trip to Rhode Island for the wake and funeral with my parents and brother. It was nice to see my dad's family and even some of my mom's family spent time with us. Here are the beautiful flowers that my company sent. It really meant a lot to see these there.
Here's a link to the blog post of the trip where we were able to spend time with my grandma. Cadence was only 2 years old.
We made it back in town in time to attend Cadence's first piano recital. The stage was so huge - it made Cadence look so tiny! She marched right up to the piano like a champ and played
Jolly Old St. Nicholas. We were very proud of her!
Santa came to visit the kids at Colin's school. They all received Rudolph noses!
For the week leading up to Christmas break, the kids at Cadence's school had something special each day. Here's a picture from Holiday Headgear day.
We visited Danny's family the weekend before Christmas. Danny's grandparents and uncle were in town from North Carolina. It was nice to be able to see everyone. Cadence got a new bike and Colin got a batting trainer for baseball. They were both so excited!
The kids like the new tradition of building a gingerbread house on Christmas Eve. We had dinner at my parents' house and spent Christmas day at our house.
The kids got some sweet glasses from one of my co-workers.
All ready for Santa to come! Cadence wanted to make sure Santa got one of her drawings.
Cadence and Colin did a really good job and waited until 7:00 on Christmas morning to check out what Santa brought. I texted my mom so they could join in on the fun. I love watching the kids get so excited about everything. It's a blast!
We spent the rest of the day playing games, hanging out, watching movies, and eating way too much.
Dizzert, our elf, left a parting note before going back to the North Pole with Santa. ;)
Santa left a little note as well.
Mom and Dad were supposed to have matching sweaters, but Dad's didn't fit him - I got the hand-me-down! Cute, huh? Mom and I got photobombed...twice!!
The day after Christmas, I took Cadence for a haircut at Sweet & Sassy. She loves it there and they do a really good job.
We also took the kids to see the movie Coco. It was a cute movie, but I think it would've been a better idea to see Ferdinand. I'm pretty sure the whole concept of Dia de la Muerta (Day of the Dead) was over Colin's head and it made Cadence worry about death -- totally not the outcome I was hoping for!
A blog post would not be complete without some pictures from past Grandma Fridays!
Cadence wrapped her gifts for the family all by herself!
Here are the kids with the tree we decorate every year with the mini Hallmark ornaments from Danny's grandma. The kids really love that little Charlie Brown tree.
Colin loves the train from my grandparents. He asks about it all year long!
