October Fun

October was a pretty busy month for us - we did a lot but had a good time doing it!

We spent a couple of hours during the weekend making applesauce with all of the apples we picked at Legend Hills Orchard.  Danny and the kids do a good job peeling and coring the apples and then I slice them and make sure there aren't any seeds or skin left.  The applesauce was delicious - we made enough to freeze several containers-worth!

Colin's pre-k lesson plans usually involve a theme each week - one week was spent learning about spiders!

Cadence also had spirit week at school - one day was crazy hat/sock day

Another day was super hero day

I was happy with the way school pictures turned out this year.  They're getting so big!

We spent a Saturday downtown - I took Cadence to the Columbus Children's Theater to see the Junie B. Jones musical (she has read many of the books).  It was really cute - we had front row seats!  Cadence also got one of the actress' autographs.  It was like she had met a celebrity!

Afterward, we met up with the boys and had lunch at the North Market.  We got mac & cheese from Hot Chicken Takeover, pizza, I had Jeni's ice cream, you name it, we ate it...

We took a stroll around the city before we headed home.

I love seeing the different activities Colin gets to do while at school.  His teachers are doing a great job preparing him for kindergarten.

Cadence's school had their annual fall festival one night during the week.  They had a crafts area where the kids made their own candy corn necklaces...

they decorated pumpkins...

and they had face-painting (although, my kids opted to have something painted on their arms).

That weekend, I took Colin to a birthday party at Magic Mountain - it was the first party he had gone to for one of his friends from school.  They had pizza and cake, played in the kids gym playland, and had time in the arcade.

Danny and I had been wanting to take the kids to Magic Mountain, so after the party, Danny and Cadence met us there.   Danny's parents also met us there (they came into town to cheer on Danny in the half-marathon).

Colin LOVED the go-carts; Cadence decided not to ride.

The next day, my mom, the kids, my in-laws, and myself all went downtown for the half marathon.  Danny and my dad both ran.  They did great!

This veteran ran carrying 2 flags - incredible.

They finished!

Later in the month, Colin had fun at school making slime.

Colin loves the days he gets to pick up "sissy" at school.

One day in class, Cadence got to use the scientific method to test the strength of egg shells.  I love how she looks like she took charge in her group.

Art time

I was fortunate enough to be able to take some time out of work and chaperone Cadence's class on their field trip to Lehner's Pumpkin farm.  We love that place!  I had an awesome time with Cadence and her classmates.  My favorite part was watching Cadence interact with her friends.  They're a great group of kids!

We learned about baby chicks...

played with giant Legos...

saw lots of animals...

had lunch...

went through a corn maze...

and went on a hay ride to pick out pumpkins

Here's a pic of Colin and his buddies at school

They love building with Legos

While I spent a Saturday afternoon with Cadence at a birthday party at SportsOhio, Danny took Colin on a bike ride.  Both kids are doing great on their bikes -- maybe eventually they'll let us take off the training wheels...

A blog post isn't complete until there are some Grandma Friday pictures!  Grandma took Colin to the Columbus Zoo.  He loves the reptiles!

This post started with the kids in shorts -- before Halloween, we had a little bit of snow one morning!  The kids had fun "playing" in the snow.

Later that day, we made a successful batch of our own slime at home!  Colin had been bugging me all weekend - the trick is liquid starch, people!  We wasted a lot of glue that weekend.
